Our expertise

Slate is where we started. It's still what we do best.

LDM began as a slate roofing business, and slate is still at the heart of the company. Our roofers bring more than a century of combined experience to every job, from a full strip and re-slate on a Victorian terrace to new slate on a modern build.

Private home, social housing contract or commercial property, the approach is the same: the right slate, laid to the right gauge, finished properly at every ridge, valley and abutment. Slate is fire-resistant, keeps its colour and keeps its integrity for decades.

All FAQs

How long does a slate roof last?

Natural slate is one of the longest-lasting roofing materials there is. With proper installation and occasional maintenance, a slate roof can last well over 100 years, which is why it's known as the 'forever roof'.

Should I repair my slate roof or have it re-slated?

If the slates are sound and the problems are local (a few slipped slates, a tired valley, a leaking chimney), a repair is usually the sensible option. If fixings have failed across the roof, or there's widespread slipping and leaking, a re-slate is often better value long-term. We'll give you an honest view after inspecting it.

Can you remove a chimney as part of a re-slate?

Yes. Removing redundant chimneys during a re-slate is something we do regularly. It removes a common source of leaks and leaves a clean, continuous slate finish.

Will I need scaffolding?

For re-slates and most larger slate jobs, yes. Because we run our own scaffolding service, we plan the access and the roof together, so you deal with one firm throughout.
